Fee-Only Financial Planner
Any recommendations for a fee only financial planner that you've used to determine if you're ready to call it quits? Looking for someone with the FI mindset that will understand what we are looking to do and tell us honestly if we're ready or what we need to do to be ready.

I met Aubrey Williams at a CampFI in MN just last week and he did a case study with someone there and was super helpful with various scenarios all weekend. Highly recommend to check him out. He’s fee based. Website is Open Path Financial.
Thank you jordankidd. I will check him out
...correction Jay! Thank you
Had a great meeting with a Nectarine planner/advisor and would definitely recommend. The things I like about that platform in general:
- No hidden costs, and you know up front what you're paying
- You get to choose your appointment based on the planner you choose
- You can filter planners down to specific things you're looking for - for example, based on what you shared, you could look for one who has FI listed in what they like to help with, along with any other criteria you may have
- Once you set up your account, all documents, advice, meeting recordings, etc. are housed there so you always have access
What to expect?
- They'll ask you to send some things ahead of time, which was great since we didn't have to use the meeting time to review numbers
- Meet for about an hour or so, it's a packed hour, so the more you have prepared, the more you'll get out of it
- The meeting gets recorded, so don't feel like you need to take copious notes while it's happening, and you have access to it in your account
- You also get a report afterwards, which, for us, included a summary of what we discussed, next steps for any goals we had laid out, as well as links to helpful resources (he caught on quickly that we like to do a lot of this ourselves, but like talking through things with someone certified, so he didn't waste time trying to do things for us, but instead gave us resources that would help us get things done). *This report may vary depending on the style of the planner you met with, so this is all based on my experience.
- All planners on Nectarine also offer a more in-depth, pricier offering called "The Plan" which is an 8-week deep dive. For us, this was mentioned but not pushed, which I appreciated. Just a heads up going into it.
Where we're at now:
- We met about a year ago and have checked off many of the boxes we set from the original meeting. We're currently planning a follow-up meeting to review and create a plan to get us through another year.
- I'd highly recommend for anyone looking to bounce ideas off of someone who is in the business. Our planner was able to validate a lot of the direction we were already hoping to move in, and offer some other options that we were unaware of that helped us save money/fees and give us a better trajectory for hitting FI sooner.
Hope this helps you find someone who can get you the answers you're looking for. We live in a smaller town and most of the financial advisors around here give me a strange look when I bring up FI, so a platform like Nectarine opens up access to advisors who get it.
Thank you for this thorough breakdown! I had looked into this platform after the podcast episode where he interviewed the founder but I didn't take the leap. I think I may do it now! :)
We're also considering running our numbers by a fee-only financial planner. Has anyone tried PlanVision? Would be curious to hear your experience, if so! www.planvisionmn.com I just came across them in a different forum (humbledollar maybe).
I signed up for Planvision and found them helpful and extremely reasonably priced.
Fee-only, which includes AUM pay model, or advice-only?

Thank you jordan. I will check those out
....I tried Nectarine recently and wasn't impressed. I realize it depends on the individual, but my experience is pushing me elsewhere.
