Hey, FI friends — I recently hosted Brad Barrett on my podcast, Exceptionally Good: Leaders for a Better World, and wanted to share the episode with you all.

We took a slightly different angle from the usual FI conversation — diving into what Financial Independence means for people working in education, nonprofits, and purpose-driven work. We hit on some powerful stuff:

  • “No margin, no mission” — the link between financial health and long-term impact
  • Building a life you don’t need to retire from
  • Opting out of the default path (in career, consumption, and leadership)
  • How compounding applies to cultural change, not just investing

If you’re in the FI community and care about service, education, or leadership, I think you’ll really connect with this one.

I’d love your thoughts — especially from those working in mission-driven fields trying to find that balance of purpose + sustainability.

Listening now! Absolutely love everything with Brad and as someone who has been following the journey and in many ways feel like I'm starting off in a similar path/want to follow his path (working at a big accounting firm, getting my cpa and very focused on financial independence) I really appreciate you sharing this perspective!

Thank you for using "tenets" when you mean principles, and not people who pay rent otherwise known as "tenants."
