Homebank: the oft-overlooked cross platform budgeting app
I've been a user of Homebank for several years at this point. I love how flexible the categories are, and it's pretty easy to pop up different types of reports. Drilling down by category or vendor is fantastic. It's a bit of a manual process to download CSV, QFX, or OFX files, but I'm not really keen on sharing my banking details directly with online platforms, even if they claim it's "read only access." Perhaps best of all, I know that my data remains my own, and that I'll never have to worry about compatibility or being forced onto future incompatible versions, since access to every version (and even the source code!) is free and openly available. The save file is also just plain text, so it's easy to keep backups or even use version control to maintain a history of changes.
